About Nil

Hello

I think in 2005-2006, I wanted to have a food blog and opened something on blogger just to see how it looks like, didn’t use my photos or something 2-3 post with photos from internet… and life was going fast and busy couldn’t find time to back to blogging…

Do this, do that.. after this, after that.. always somethings ahead of me to complete and then I will start to my food blogging… Which is ironic, because I know very well with painful examples that how life is so short and how time flies…

I am Nil… I love cooking and being in the kitchen. I like smell of cooking or baking something from kitchen as well, that gives me a calm, peaceful home feeling especially cold, snowy winter days. My first ever cooking thing was French fries, but I was trying to do Potato chips, before the age 10 maybe… My father came to the kitchen and helped me, it was a summer day, my mother at the shopping or something like that, I was sneak into the kitchen. We sliced potatoes round shape and fried in the pan… but I remember telling that ‘it was not the same father!’ Not enough thin for chip taste… So as most children French fries, chips and everything with potato was my favorite during my childhood…

I never like to eat meat (only exception was meatball, I always said that if there is no meatball I can be easily vegetarian) or eggs, even had an almost traumatic fight in a holiday morning with my mother that I didn’t want to eat eggs! My lovely mother just trying to feed us (I have two siblings, a younger sister and a younger brother, I am the oldest) healthy. But as some children I was naive and thoughtful, emphatic to animals and nature.

As an Eastern European and Mediterranean (Turkish/Ottoman cuisine) we already eat in balance with vegetables… but life taught me to eat in more balance, not just for weigh control but for healthy life. I am not a control freak to measure and calculate everything I eat or something. I don’t support that mentality as well but a little bit discipline in our lives help to stay healthier, without forgetting to adding some zest for life and have fun.

If some youngsters or newly learners came across, stop by and learn a few things or like to read on this blog, my mission will be accomplish. This will make me happy.

Come join me on my kitchen table, maybe there is a tray full of pastry, maybe a soup and a Turkish Coffee to talk about how life is going on…

P.S: I am just starting to this blog on last week of 2017 September… When I can find time I will post the photos and videos I took in last few months… so as long as you’re seeing this note, it means this is not the completed version yet. Right now what you are seeing is much like place holders till I am done. Content and the design will change and look better in time.
